The discharge of wastewater in Canada is regulated provincially, generally through their respective Department of Environments. Parties discharging wastewater must obtain proper permits specific to each site and meet stringent regulatory requirements.

In Alberta, all providers of wastewater management solutions for temporary work camps and facilities must obtain a Variance through Alberta Municipal Affairs. The annual Variance approval process requires each company to ensure effective operation of the treatment plant and to carry out regular sampling and testing of the effluent as set out in their operations and monitoring plan. Professionals dealing with wastewater systems or issuing permits must be provincially accredited. Remote’s employees are properly accredited and regularly tested to be able to provide wastewater management solutions. Remote employees have obtaine Registered Onsite Wastewater Practicioner (ROWP) certifications through the Alberta Onsite Wastewater Management Association and the Applied Science Technologists and Technicians of British Columbia.

Remote is a member in good standing of the Alberta Onsite Wastewater Management Association and the Western Canada Onsite Wastewater Management Association. The Alberta Onsite Wastewater Management Association (AOWMA) is the provincial not-for profit organization established to educate, train and certify industry professionals. The association engages its member installers, septage haulers, suppliers, municipalities and provincial government departments to arrive at sound practices that strengthen the industry, and ensure safe and effective septage management for all rural Alberta.
